The original problem that caused the economic collapse --
housing foreclosures -- is getting worse, not
better. Foreclosures on all types of mortgages are still
occurring at an annual rate of 2.3 million. These losses, in
turn, are draining local resources from communities --
jeopardizing funding for services like police, fire and rescue,
and even public schools.
Unless the government focuses more attention on local
communities, many of the Americans who are feeling the pain from
the recession will not see any relief from the historic amounts
the government is spending.
Tell Congress that the bailout must serve the public interest by
helping those hit hardest by the economic crisis!
Virtually none of the billions of taxpayer dollars approved for
the bailout has been earmarked for families facing
foreclosure. And the Government Accountability Office has
reported that the program lacks ways to ensure that banks are
properly using the money.
It's time for real oversight and accountability.
The Administration and Congress failed to properly oversee
government spending in Iraq and in New Orleans after Hurricane
Katrina. We cannot go down that road again. The federal
government must put protections in place to ensure that the
bailout funds are not just spent, but spent wisely.
Common Cause will be working hard over the coming weeks and
months to watchdog the bailout and make sure that the funds are
used to help real communities all across the country that are
being devastated by this economic crisis.
Please join us. Tell Congress that the bailout must be fair,
transparent and must serve the public interest by helping
struggling Americans.
Let's make sure that our economic policies serve the taxpayers
first, and not just the interests of the banking industry
lobbyists.

533,000 Jobs Lost in November
Since the Beginning of the
Year, 1.8 Million Jobs Have Been Cut by Employers
By SCOTT MAYEROWITZ and
DANIEL ARNALL
ABC NEWS Business Unit
Dec. 5, 2008—
The American economy was
dealt another brutal blow in November with the loss of a
startling 553,000 jobs, the government announced today.
The number was much worse than
Wall Street analysts had predicted. It was the largest
monthly decline since December 1974 and it shows just how
long and bad this recession has become. Since the start
of the year American employers have shed 1.8 million jobs.
Just about every day,
another company announces a big round of layoffs.
Just today, General Motors
announced that it would fire another 2,000 workers in three
car factories. Thursday, DuPont said it would cut about
2,500 jobs and AT&T Inc., the largest U.S. phone company,
said it's
eliminating 12,000 jobs.
"Today's job data reflects the
fact that our economy is in a recession," President Bush
said today.
"I'm concerned about our
workers who've lost jobs during this downturn," he said. "As
we work to address the problems in this economy, we've
extended unemployment insurance benefits to those who have
lost their jobs during this downturn."
To see the impact
the recession is
having on Americans, look no further than the Bexley family
of Loveland, Colo.
In the past three months,
mom was laid off from a home-building company, her
son from a bar and grill, and now dad has lost his
job at a medical-supply company.
"It was heart-crushing,
really," said the mother, Emily Bexley, who was laid off in
August. "I just I cried and cried and cried, because none of
us have a job."
Father Bud Bexley lost his job
last month.
"I kind of got a sick feeling
in my stomach," he said. "I'm out looking for a job today,
and delivering resumes, and just doing what you've got to
do, I guess."
He's Got Too Much Work
There are a few people
benefiting during this economy.
Larry, who asked that his last
name not be used, processes unemployment claims for
the state of California.
As the economy has sunk deeper
into a recession, he has worked longer and longer hours to
process all the claims. He now gets about 20 hours of
overtime each week. That's been going on for nearly five
months.
Now he is even working
Saturdays to handle extra claims.
"I never, never mention it to
people that I'm talking to on the phone, because they are
unemployed," Larry said. "It's not a good situation."
Recently, he said, there is
more panic in people's voices as they call up to seek
government help.
Long-time employees now laid
off are also finding a vastly different job scene.
"Looking for a job has
changed," Larry said. You used to be able to walk into a
company and fill out an application or mail in your resume.
"Everything is over the computer or through e-mail now."
Unemployment Rate Jumps
The unemployment rate also shot up from 6.5 percent to 6.7
percent, the Labor Department said. It is
the highest unemployment rate the country has seen since
October 1993.
The Dow Jones industrial average
fell more than 200 points after the disappointing news on
jobs but was down about 100 points by noon.
As the recession deepens and
consumers and companies cut back spending, American
businesses are slashing jobs to try to remain profitable.
The jobs losses have been
widespread with just about every industry affected.
Large layoffs have been seen in manufacturing, construction,
financial firms, retailers, travel and leisure and
hospitality. Health care remains one of the few fields where
jobs are holding their own, if not growing. Education and
government jobs (Why am I not
surprised? Ed.) were also bight spots in an otherwise
dismal report.
In real terms, unemployment rates
this high mean that more than 10 million of us are looking
for work but simply cannot find it. That's an additional 2.7
million people who have been actively looking for jobs but
have not found them since the beginning of the recession.
The last three months, coinciding
with the ongoing world financial crisis, have been dismal --
the average monthly jobs loss was 419,000 -- as American
companies have faced a perfect storm of economic collapse.
The consumers they sell to have
tightened their pocketbooks. Banks and commercial lending
markets they rely on to stock the shelves and pay their
employees have not been functioning. They have no choice but
to cut back -- big and fast.
Consumer Credit
Today's report presents an almost
unprecedented challenge to the nation: How, in a world
driven by credit and the consumer, do you counter the credit
crunch and record-low consumer credit?
Even the most conservative
economists are now saying the government must create a
massive stimulus program with all due haste. And interest
rates have to be almost zero -- money should be almost free
to entice qualified borrowers, though gladiator capitalists
have retreated to the sidelines.
The Federal Reserve System will
almost certainly lower a key federal interest rate below the
historic low 1 percent where it sits now. The governors meet
in a two-day session Dec. 15-16 to craft their response to
today's report. Could Bernanke & Co. be considering a cut
before the meeting? They could. They've done so twice
already this year.
The incoming Obama administration
and Democratic-controlled Congress will almost certainly
start fleshing out details of the Stimulus Act of 2009 in
short order. Those in the know expect at least $1 trillion
in direct fiscal stimulus during the next two years. It
could be more; it's almost impossible for it to be less if
lawmakers want it to be effective, according to the experts.
It also makes it that much more
difficult for Congress and the Bush administration to turn
the Detroit 3 away. They are currently in Washington begging
for the $34 billion bailout. The estimate of jobs fallout if
just one of the companies collapses is 2.5 million.

What
Change?
by Chuck Baldwin
December 5, 2008
"Change you can believe in." This was
Barack Obama's campaign slogan. There is no doubt that the
American people were fed up with George W. Bush and his
fellow Republicans. Who can blame them?
After campaigning for
change back in 1999 (What political challenger doesn't campaign
for change?), President Bush and his fellow neocons promptly set
out to continue business as usual in Washington, D.C. Federal
spending and meddling exploded under the leadership of the GOP.
In fact, one has to go back to the administrations of Franklin
D. Roosevelt to match the increases in Big Government and Big
Brother by Bush and Company. Add to the out-of-control spending
habits of the GOP an unnecessary war, a near-Depression economy,
and a burgeoning police state. It is no surprise that the
American people were ready for change. And Obama excelled in
delivering the message of change. So, what kind of change will
Obama actually deliver?
Will Obama remove U.S.
troops from Iraq and Afghanistan? Probably not. Oh, he might
reduce troops in Iraq, but if anyone believes that he will not
leave a significant U.S. presence in Iraq, they are living in a
dream world. Furthermore, many, if not most, of the troops from
Iraq will most likely find themselves in Afghanistan. Mark my
words; Barack Obama has no plans to remove U.S. troops from the
Middle East. Net result: no change.
What about America's
economic woes? What changes will Barack Obama bring to the
table? Hardly any. America will continue it's trademark deficit
spending; we will continue to send manufacturing jobs overseas;
so-called "free trade" deals will continue to advance; Big
Business will continue to receive government bailouts; the
Federal Reserve will continue to call the shots for America's
financial decisions (and reap gargantuan profits in the
process); Congress will continue to be inept, irresponsible, and
clueless; there will be no attempt to return the United States
to sound money principles; and there will be no reduction in
foreign aid. In a nutshell, it will be business as usual in
Washington, D.C., and New York City.
Don't get me wrong:
Barack Obama will doubtless throw out some bones to his liberal
supporters in much the same way that Republican presidents throw
out a bone or two to their conservative constituents. Watch for
Obama to overturn the ban on embryonic stem cell research.
America's upper income earners can expect some sort of tax
increase. No doubt oil companies will end up losing some tax
exemptions. Watch for additional environmentalist policies to be
enacted. And, yes, there will be some sort of "universal health
care" proposal. But the Bush administration has already given
America a socialized financial system, so how can Republicans
complain about socialized medicine?
Obama might try to
resurrect the "Fairness Doctrine." Some suggest that Obama might
try to rid the prohibition of homosexuals serving in the armed
forces, but I doubt that he will take on this one. The political
net gain would not be worth the potential fallout.
Although he might want
to, I doubt that Obama will actively promote additional gun
control (Democrats always lose when this happens). He may push
for a ban on "high capacity" magazines that hold over ten
rounds, as Bill Clinton did. If Obama does not go after guns
directly, we can expect some sort of attack on ammunition (which
is already happening) that will drive up the cost of ammo even
more. Of course, some sort of gun confiscation or martial law
could materialize in the wake of another "terrorist" attack. But
a McCain administration would act no differently, so, again, the
net result is zero change. Remember, it was Republican George W.
Bush who expunged Posse Comitatus and deployed 20,000 army
troops on U.S. soil to be used for domestic law enforcement. If
Obama really wanted to bring about change, he would reverse
Bush's draconian decisions, would he not? Don't hold your
breath.
We can also expect more
harassment of gun owners and lawful gun dealers by the BATFE.
But this is no change at all. The current leadership at BATFE is
already about as hostile to gun owners and gun dealers as it can
possibly be. An Obama BATFE will be no worse. But neither will
it be any better. Net result: no change.
So, what will be the
overall change to the direction of America? Answer: there will
be no change to the overall direction of the country. There will
be no change to the welfare state. There will be little change
to the warfare state. No change to NATO, except to expand it.
Very little change, if any, to foreign policy. No change to
America's open sieves, otherwise called national borders. And
there will be absolutely no change to the burgeoning New World
Order that began in earnest under both Bushes and Bill Clinton.
The NAFTA superhighway
will have the support of the Obama administration. The North
American Community will proceed unimpeded by the Obama White
House. In all likelihood, the Amero (a common currency with
Canada and Mexico) will materialize during Obama's first term.
But this would all have happened had John McCain been elected.
No change here.
One reason why it is so
easy to predict a business-as-usual Obama Presidency is the
people that Obama has surrounded himself with. Former New York
Federal Reserve chairman Timothy Geithner* for Secretary of the
Treasury; former Secretary of the Treasury Lawrence Summers* for
National Economic Council director; Bush's Defense Secretary
Robert Gates* will keep his job; Illinois Representative Rahm
Emanuel for Obama's Chief of Staff; Hillary Clinton for
Secretary of State; Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano* for
Secretary of Homeland Security; former South Dakota Senator Tom
Daschle* to head the Health and Human Services Department;
former Assistant Attorney General Eric Holder to be Attorney
General; New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson* as Secretary of
Commerce; Susan Rice* for U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations;
Paul Volcker* for the Economic Recovery Advisory Board; James
Steinberg* as Deputy Secretary of State; Mona Sutphen* for
Deputy White House Chief of Staff, and Louis Caldera* for
Director of the White House Military Office.
Does anyone see "change"
with the above names? Every one of them is a longtime political
insider. And at least eleven of them (those with an asterisk [*]
behind their names, above) are members of the globalist Council
on Foreign Relations (CFR). In fact, six out of the eleven
cabinet-level positions in the Obama administration are CFR
members.
The CFR has dominated
both Democrat and Republican Presidential administrations for
decades. Presidents such as Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon,
Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton
have all been members of the CFR. Vice Presidents such as Hubert
Humphrey, Nelson Rockefeller, Walter Mondale, and Dick Cheney
have been CFR members. And over the last several decades,
practically every secretary of defense, secretary of the
treasury, and most CIA directors have been CFR members. And
let's not forget that this year's Republican Presidential
nominee, John McCain, is a CFR member.
Do you now see why--no
matter who is elected President of the United States--nothing
changes? Republican or Democrat, it does not matter: the CFR and
their collaborators remain in power. And as Sonny and Cher used
to sing, "The Beat Goes On."
There will be no real
change in Washington, D.C., until the CFR and their elitist
cronies are thoroughly and universally removed from power. And
the only way this will happen is if we elect an Independent
President of the United States (someone who truly understands
the New World Order and is dedicated to defeating it), because
the two major parties will never allow someone opposed to the
CFR to become their nominee. The only Republican candidate for
President in 2008 who demonstrated those credentials was Dr. Ron
Paul. And to a lesser degree, the only Democrat who even seemed
to vaguely understand this was Dennis Kucinich. Notice that both
men were thoroughly repudiated by their respective parties'
leadership and all but totally ignored by the national news
media. (The CFR and their surrogates also control the national
news media. What a coincidence!)
So, while the occupant at 1600
Pennsylvania Avenue may have changed, there will be no real
change to the direction of these United States. Count on it!

SWAT Team Like Raid by Ohio authorities on a farm house in LaGange
http://tinyurl.com/59fxfb
Posted: 12/04/2008
Ohio authorities stormed a farm house in LaGange Monday, December 1, to execute
a search warrant, holding the Jacqueline and John Stowers and their son and
young grandchildren at gunpoint for nine hours. During the raid the Ohio
Department of Agriculture and police confiscated over ten thousand dollars worth
of food, computers and cell phones. The Stowers’ crime? They run a private,
members-only food co-op.
While state authorities were looking for evidence of illegal activities, the
family was not informed what crime they were suspected of, they were not read
their rights or allowed to make a phone call. The children, some as young as
toddlers, were traumatized by armed officers interrogating the adults with guns
drawn.
The Morning Journal, a newspaper serving northern Ohio, reported that the
Stowers were believed to be operating without a license. However, the Stowers
claim that the food co-op they run does not engage in any activities that would
require state licensing.
Friends of the Stowers openly question why such aggressive tactics were
necessary to investigate a licensing complaint.
The Ohio Department of Agriculture has apparently been chastised by the courts
in previous cases for over-reach, including entrapment of an Amish man to sell
raw milk, which backfired, when it became known that the man gave milk instead
of selling it to a state undercover agent, refusing to take money for what he
believed to be a charitable act. The Amish literally interpret the Gospel of
Matthew (5:42) to “give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow
of thee turn not thou away.”
The matter has been forwarded to the Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office and the
Lorain County General Health District according to Lorain County court records.

Army to Court-Martial Soldier Featured in
PTSD Story

Earlier this month, NPR reported on problems
soldiers face at Ft. Carson, Colo., when they
come back from Iraq with Post-Traumatic Stress

base command has taken steps to court-martial
one of the soldiers profiled in the story.

Christopher Bond (R-MO) and Barack Obama (D-IL)
have asked the Pentagon to open an investigation
into allegations that soldiers at Fort Carson
did not receive adequate mental-health care. Dr.

health affairs, appeared on Talk of the Nation
to address the allegations. (Read

him. He came close to hanging
himself after officials said
they would kick him out of the
Army.

Corey Davis was a machine gunner in
Iraq. He says he began "freaking

nightmares and began using
drugs. When he sought help at
the base hospital one day, he
says he was told he'd have to
wait more than a month to be

Jason Harvey was
diagnosed with PTSD. In May, he
slashed his wrists and arms in a cry
for help. Officials at Ft. Carson
expelled Harvey from the Army a few
months ago for "patterns of
misconduct." Harvey had been
diagnosed with post-traumatic stress
disorder.

Alex
Orum, pictured with his
wife Donna, was diagnosed with
PTSD. He was dismissed from the
Army earlier this year for
"patterns of misconduct" — such
as showing up late to formation
and coming to work unwashed.
Psychiatrists say such behaviors
are consistent with PTSD.

Referring to
soldiers with PTSD, recently
retired sergeant Nathan
Towsley told NPR that
"I don't like people who are
weak-minded." He said he'd never
be caught going to a therapist.
Since that interview, he's
acknowledged that he's depressed
and has trouble controlling his
anger. He has just started
therapy.
Corey Davis, Tyler Jennings and Sgts. Drew Preston and
Gabriel Temples all served in
the same platoon in Iraq.
Preston and Temples say Davis
and Jennings were great soldiers
in Iraq. But the sergeants think
they've been "faking" their
mental-health problems to avoid
returning to war.

Web Extra: A Family's Story
After Liz Kaplan's son, Adam,
returned to Ft. Carson from Iraq in
late 2004, therapists diagnosed him
with PTSD. They said his illness was
triggered partly by an incident in
Iraq: He accidentally caused the
death of a fellow soldier as he blew
up the doors of a suspected weapons
cache.
But Liz and her husband say that
after their son started doing drugs
— which studies show is common among
soldiers with PTSD — officials at
Ft. Carson failed to give him the
help he needed. Liz threatened to
chain herself to a statue at the
base's entrance until officials
answered her family's pleas to help
her son. (In the end, she didn't.)
Adam Kaplan was eventually
court-martialed on drug charges and
sentenced to 15 months in military
prison.
Web Extra: Silenced in Therapy
Military officials say that
soldiers diagnosed with PTSD or
other serious mental-health
disorders can attend group therapy
sessions at their Army bases. But
soldiers at Ft. Carson said that in
some cases, the group sessions make
them feel more upset, not better.
Soldier Michael Lemke attended those
sessions before he was discharged
from the Army because of PTSD and
other medical disabilities. As Lemke
and others told NPR, Army therapists
told soldiers they were not
permitted to criticize Army officers
during the therapy sessions — even
though officers were allegedly
harassing and punishing them for
being emotionally "weak."
All Things Considered,
December 4, 2006 ·
Army studies show that at least 20 percent to 25
percent of the soldiers who have served in Iraq
display symptoms of serious mental-health
problems, including depression, substance abuse
and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Administration officials say there are extensive
programs to heal soldiers both at home and in
Iraq.
But an NPR investigation at Colorado's Ft.
Carson has found that even those who feel
desperate can have trouble getting the help they
need. In fact, evidence suggests that officers
at Ft. Carson punish soldiers who need help, and
even kick them out of the Army.
Soldier Tyler Jennings says that when he came
home from Iraq last year, he felt so depressed
and desperate that he decided to kill himself.
Late one night in the middle of May, his wife
was out of town, and he felt more scared than
he'd felt in gunfights in Iraq. Jennings says he
opened the window, tied a noose around his neck
and started drinking vodka, "trying to get drunk
enough to either slip or just make that
decision."
Five months before, Jennings had gone to the
medical center at Ft. Carson, where a staff
member typed up his symptoms: "Crying spells...
hopelessness... helplessness... worthlessness."
Jennings says that when the sergeants who ran
his platoon found out he was having a breakdown
and taking drugs, they started to haze him. He
decided to attempt suicide when they said that
they would eject him from the Army.
"You know, there were many times I've told my
wife — in just a state of panic, and just being
so upset — that I really wished I just died over
there [in Iraq]," he said. "Cause if you just
die over there, everyone writes you off as a
hero."
Services Out of Reach for Soldiers
Jennings isn't alone. Other soldiers who've
returned to Ft. Carson from Iraq say they feel
betrayed by the way officials have treated them.
Army files show that these were soldiers in good
standing before they went to Iraq, and that they
started spinning out of control upon their
return.
Since the war in Vietnam, military leaders
have said that soldiers who are wounded
emotionally need help, just like soldiers
missing limbs.
"The goal, first and foremost, is to identify
who's having a problem," says William
Winkenwerder, assistant secretary of defense for
health affairs. "Secondly, it's to provide
immediate support. And finally, our goal is to
restore good mental health."
The Army boasts of having great programs to
care for soldiers. The Pentagon has sent
therapists to Iraq to work with soldiers in the
field. And at Army bases in the United States,
mental-health units offer individual and group
therapy, and counseling for substance abuse. But
soldiers say that in practice, the mental-health
programs at Ft. Carson don't work the way they
should.
For instance, soldiers fill out
questionnaires when they return from Iraq that
are supposed to warn officials if they might be
getting depressed, or suffering from PTSD, or
abusing alcohol or drugs. But many soldiers at
Ft. Carson say that even though they
acknowledged on the questionnaires that they
were having disturbing symptoms, nobody at the
base followed up to make sure they got
appropriate support. A study by the
investigative arm of Congress, the Government
Accountability Office, suggests it's a national
problem: GAO found that about 80 percent of the
soldiers who showed potential signs of PTSD were
not referred for mental health follow-ups. The
Pentagon disagrees with the GAO's findings.
Soldiers at Ft. Carson also say that even
when they request support, the mental-health
unit is so overwhelmed that they can't get the
help they need. Corey Davis, who was a machine
gunner in Iraq, says he began "freaking out"
after he came back to Ft. Carson; he had
constant nightmares and began using drugs. He
says he finally got up the courage to go to the
Army hospital to beg for help.
"They said I had to wait a month and a half
before I'd be seen," Davis said. "I almost
started crying right there."
Intimidated by Superiors
Almost all of the soldiers said that their
worst problem is that their supervisors and
friends turned them into pariahs when they
learned that they were having an emotional
crisis. Supervisors said it's true: They are
giving some soldiers with problems a hard time,
because they don't belong in the Army.
Jennings called a supervisor at Ft. Carson to
say that he had almost killed himself, so he was
going to skip formation to check into a
psychiatric ward. The Defense Department's
clinical guidelines say that when a soldier has
been planning suicide, one of the main ways to
help is to put him in the hospital. Instead,
officers sent a team of soldiers to his house to
put him in jail, saying that Jennings was AWOL
for missing work.
"I had them pounding on my door out there.
They're saying 'Jennings, you're AWOL. The
police are going to come get you. You've got 10
seconds to open up this door,'" Jennings said.
"I was really scared about it. But finally, I
opened the door up for them, and I was like 'I'm
going to the hospital.'"
A supervisor in Jennings' platoon
corroborated Jennings' account of the incident.
Disciplined, Then Purged from the
Ranks
Evidence suggests that officials are kicking
soldiers with PTSD out of the Army in a manner
that masks the problem.
Richard Travis, formerly the Army's senior
prosecutor at Ft. Carson, is now in private
practice. He says that the Army has to pay
special mental-health benefits to soldiers
discharged due to PTSD. But soldiers discharged
for breaking the rules receive fewer or even no
benefits, he says.
Alex Orum's medical records showed that he
had PTSD, but his officers expelled him from the
Army earlier this year for "patterns of
misconduct," repeatedly citing him on
disciplinary grounds. In Orum's case, he was
cited for such infractions as showing up late to
formation, coming to work unwashed, mishandling
his personal finances and lying to supervisors —
behaviors which psychiatrists say are consistent
with PTSD.
Sergeant Nathan Towsley told NPR, "When I'm
dealing with Alex Orum's personal problems on a
daily basis, I don't have time to train soldiers
to fight in Iraq. I have to get rid of him,
because he is a detriment to the rest of the
soldiers."
Doctors diagnosed another soldier named Jason
Harvey with PTSD. At the end of May this year,
Harvey slashed his wrists in a cry for help.
Officials also kicked Harvey out a few months
ago for "patterns of misconduct."
A therapist diagnosed Tyler Jennings with
PTSD in May, but the Army's records show he is
being tossed out because he used drugs and
missed formations. Files on other soldiers
suggest the same pattern: Those who seek
mental-health help are repeatedly cited for
misconduct, then purged from the ranks.
Most of these soldiers are leaving the Army
with less than an "honorable discharge" — which
an Army document warns "can result in
substantial prejudice in your civilian life." In
other words, the Army is pushing them out in
disgrace.

6th November, 2008 Toyota has slashed its profit forecast,
warning of a crisis in the car industry.
The Japanese giant automaker revealed it was suffering lower
profits due to the financial crisis.
Toyota, vying with General Motors for the title of the world’s
top automaker, has cut its annual profit forecast by more than
half, forecasting a 68% decline.
It will be Toyota's first drop in nine years.
It’s an awful Halloween surprise.
Earlier this week, the Bush/Cheney
Administration launched another attack on wolves
in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern
Rockies -- re-packaging a proposal that could
lead to the killing of as many as 1,000
of America’s most important and iconic animals.
Take action now. Tell the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service that our wolves deserve a lasting future
in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies.
Following several bloody months of wolf
killing in Wyoming, Idaho and Montana, a
federal court ruled earlier this year against an
earlier version of the Administration’s proposal
to remove Endangered Species Act protections for
the region’s wolves. In response, the
Bush/Cheney Administration actually
withdrew that proposal just a few
weeks ago.
But with the clock winding down on the
Bush/Administration, federal officials are
launching a last-ditch attempt to re-package and
ram through a plan that could lead to the
slaughter of as many as two-thirds
of the Greater Yellowstone and Northern Rockies
wolf population.
Don’t let them get away with it. Urge federal
officials to come up with a responsible
management plan that ensures a lasting future
for these majestic animals.
Time and time again, Defenders of Wildlife
has been at the forefront of efforts to save
wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern
Rockies, fighting -- and winning
-- in court, on the ground and in Congress to
ensure responsible, balanced management of our
wolves.
In the last two years, caring people like you
have sent tens of thousands of messages, made
thousands of calls, and donated to help us fight
the Bush/Cheney Administration and their allies
in court, educate the public and support
wolf-saving efforts in the field.
Help us safeguard wolves. Take action now.
Unfortunately, we don’t have much time to
stop this audacious 11th-hour sneak attack on
our wolves. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
is only accepting public comments until November
28th, so
please take action now.

Thousands of
Troops Are Deployed on U.S. Streets
Ready to Carry Out "Crowd Control"
Members of Congress were told they could face
martial law if they didn't pass the bailout bill. This will not
be the last time.
By Naomi Wolf
08/10/08 "AlterNet"
-- Background: the First Brigade of the Third Infantry Division,
three to four thousand soldiers, has been deployed in the United
States as of October 1. Their stated mission is the form of
crowd control they practiced in Iraq, subduing "unruly
individuals," and the management of a national emergency. I am
in Seattle and heard from the brother of one of the soldiers
that they are engaged in exercises now. Amy Goodman
reported that an Army spokesperson confirmed that they will
have access to lethal and non lethal crowd control technologies
and tanks.
George Bush struck
down Posse Comitatus, thus making it legal for military
to patrol the U.S. He has also legally established that in the
"War on Terror," the U.S. is at war around the globe and thus
the whole world is a battlefield. Thus the U.S. is also a
battlefield.
He also led change
to the 1807 Insurrection Act to give him far broader powers in
the event of a loosely defined "insurrection" or many other
"conditions" he has the power to identify. The Constitution
allows the suspension of habeas corpus -- habeas corpus prevents
us from being seized by the state and held without trial -- in
the event of an "insurrection." With his own army force now, his
power to call a group of protesters or angry voters "insurgents"
staging an "insurrection" is strengthened.
U.S. Rep. Brad
Sherman of California said to Congress, captured on C-Span and
viewable
on YouTube, that individual members of the House were threatened
with martial law within a week if they did not pass the bailout
bill:
"The only way
they can pass this bill is by creating and sustaining a
panic atmosphere. … Many of us were told in private
conversations that if we voted against this bill on Monday
that the sky would fall, the market would drop two or three
thousand points the first day and a couple of thousand on
the second day, and a few members were even told that there
would be martial law in America if we voted no."
If this is true and
Rep. Sherman is not delusional, I ask you to consider that if
they are willing to threaten martial law now, it is foolish to
assume they will never use that threat again. It is also foolish
to trust in an orderly election process to resolve this threat.
And why deploy the First Brigade? One thing the deployment
accomplishes is to put teeth into such a threat.
I interviewed
Vietnam veteran, retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and patriot
David Antoon for clarification:
"If the President
directed the First Brigade to arrest Congress, what could stop
him?"
"Nothing. Their only
recourse is to cut off funding. The Congress would be at the
mercy of military leaders to go to them and ask them not to obey
illegal orders."
"But these orders
are now legal?'"
"Correct."
"If the President
directs the First Brigade to arrest a bunch of voters, what
would stop him?"
"Nothing. It would
end up in courts but the action would have been taken."
"If the President
directs the First Brigade to kill civilians, what would stop
him?"
"Nothing."
"What would prevent
him from sending the First Brigade to arrest the editor of the
Washington Post?"
"Nothing. He could
do what he did in Iraq -- send a tank down a street in
Washington and fire a shell into the Washington Post as they did
into Al Jazeera, and claim they were firing at something else."
"What happens to
members of the First Brigade who refuse to take up arms against
U.S. citizens?"
"They'd probably be
treated as deserters as in Iraq: arrested, detained and facing
five years in prison. In Iraq a study by Ann Wright shows that
deserters -- reservists who refused to go back to Iraq -- got
longer sentences than war criminals."
"Does Congress have
any military of their own?"
"No. Congress has no
direct control of any military units. The Governors have the
National Guard but they report to the President in an emergency
that he declares."
"Who can arrest the
President?"
"The Attorney
General can arrest the President after he leaves or after
impeachment."
[Note: Prosecutor
Vincent Bugliosi has asserted it is possible for District
Attorneys around the country to charge President Bush with
murder if they represent districts where one or more military
members who have been killed in Iraq formerly resided.]
"Given the danger do
you advocate impeachment?"
"Yes. President Bush
struck down Posse Comitatus -- which has prevented, with a
penalty of two years in prison, U.S. leaders since after the
Civil War from sending military forces into our streets -- with
a 'signing statement.' He should be impeached immediately in a
bipartisan process to prevent the use of military forces and
mercenary forces against U.S. citizens"
"Should Americans
call on senior leaders in the Military to break publicly with
this action and call on their own men and women to disobey these
orders?"
"Every senior
military officer's loyalty should ultimately be to the
Constitution. Every officer should publicly break with any
illegal order, even from the President."
"But if these are
now legal. If they say, 'Don't obey the Commander in Chief,'
what happens to the military?"
"Perhaps they would
be arrested and prosecuted as those who refuse to participate in
the current illegal war. That's what would be considered a
coup."
"But it's a coup
already."
"Yes."

Capitalism Without Capital?
By Ron Paul
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article21038.htm ===
October 16, 2008 "Lew Rockwell" -- It has been long
understood that
our federal government is going deeper into debt,
consistently
raising the debt ceiling and demonstrating no fiscal
restraint. In
recent years, debt ceiling increases have been
placed in "must pass"
legislation as a means to guarantee that Republicans
as well as
Democrats would vote for them when Congress was
under Republican
control.
We also know our nation's "negative savings rate"
reflects the habits
of private citizens, showing those habits to be not
tremendously
different than the habits of the public sector. Yet,
the signs of
decline are becoming ever more apparent. So
apparent, in fact, that
it seems unlikely that bailouts or other gimmicks
will have even
short-term success. More inflation, and creating
moral hazard by
bailing out egregious offenders, is a recipe for
disaster. These
activities can seem to provide some short-term
relief, but it seems
we are now at a significant crisis point, where
monetary policy
gimmicks don't provide the band-aids they did in the
past.
Not only is our nation on the verge of bankruptcy,
but so are its
people and private institutions. We are now
repeatedly hearing about
businesses "needing to access the credit market to
make payroll."
This is an unmistakable sign of more dire
consequences ahead for the
economy. If businesses must borrow just to make
payroll, this is
evidence of a severe under capitalization that
cannot be sustained,
even for the short run.
Couple these facts with items such as the explosion
of the "payday
loan" industry and the unmasking of the false sense
of economic well-
being is nearly complete. These payday loan
companies use preferred
access to easy credit to inject cash into the hands
of the working
poor. They are nearly always set up in lower-income
neighborhoods.
These people, who are struggling to buy food and pay
rent, get
addicted to the credit drug. Their standard of
living is only further
depressed by the interest payments on these loans
that make them
profitable to their providers. Thus, the recipients
are left even
less capable of paying for items such as food and
housing in the long
run, without using this credit again and again.
These people are often the very ones being paid by
businesses
who "borrow to make payroll." This is the dark
underbelly of the fiat
money, borrow-and-spend economy this nation has been
building. As the
government takes over more and more functions of the
economy many see
the rise of socialism as an antidote to this failure
of "capitalism. "
However, the fact remains that our economy has been
increasingly
running on debt, not capital. Capitalism does not
exist without
capital and debt is not, has never been and will
never be a form of
capital. Only now are we seeing the more dire
implications of an
economy without capital.

Texas.

Expose The Criminals
Before They Kill You
By Dick Eastman
-
10-21-8
-
-
-
-
- We can defeat
enslavement by global financial crime if we
all can agree on what their crime have been,
and what those crimes have cost us, and if
we can disconnect from their programmed
deceit and move as one mass, in every city
and village in united opposition to the debt
slavery, wage-slavery, monopoly-slavery,
dumb-down slavery, rigged-election slavery,
monetary slavery systems that are our
chains.
-
- I think I understand the
entire Kelptastrophe crime and can explain
it to you clearly enough that everyone will
have sufficient reason to come together for
whole-population resistance and liberation.
-
- Sorry I don't have time
to polish the presentation -- consider it a
battlefield dispatch. This nation is being
overrun by financial vandals disguised as
regulators and bankers -- as destructive as
any invasion in history. We are finished
unless millions are made to see what is
happening and what is at stake.
-
- There were no bad loans.
The loans were reasonable given the interest
rate and the law of averages. Given the
economic climate in which they were made the
risk was reasonable and was "taken into
account" by the interest rates offered. The
market failure came about for other reasons.
-
- People failed to make
their mortgage payments all at the same time
because purchasing power had been drained
from the domestic economy by the Fed in its
"inflation fighting policy." Even now the
Federal Reserve has the power to reverse
what is happening by merely decreasing the
reserve requirement that it sets for
commercial lending institutions. And even
now the Fed is holding back on supplying the
public with mortgage payment medium on the
grounds that "technically, as economists
have agreed to reckon it, the US is not in a
recession (a recession being defined as
consecutive months of declining gross
domestic product.) [Note: the Kelptocracy is
above all else a transfer of wealth (houses,
equity shares, debt obligations which are
bond wealth for the rich etc.) from the
hands of the masses to the hands of the
ruling minority, not a decrease in outcome.
In this economy for every decrease in income
to the middle class and poor there is a
dollar increase in income to the rich, for
every liability-side increase in debt to the
poor there is the asset-side increase of
just that amount to the rich. The population
can be reduced to total beggary and the
economy still not register a recession. End
of note.] So, instead of providing mortgage
payment and food payment and fuel payment
media to the people by simply decreasing the
reserve requirement to give more loanable
deposits to banks "for nothing" as the Fed
was chartered to do, the Fed has taken a
much different course. It has kept the money
supply tight to benefit lenders and IOU
holders at the expense of everyone else.
-
- The Fed has kept the
reserve requirement constant throughout the
Kleptastrophe. Adjusting the reserve
requirement was the lever for expanding the
money supply that the Federal Reserve banks
were supposed to use when their was a
shortage of purchasing power in any of the
12 Fed Reserve districts. The tool was to
put money in the hands of small businesses
and new businesses, and homebuilders and
farms etc. whenever purchasing power got too
tight and there were too many foreclosures.
But that is not what the Wall Street
financiers wanted 100 years ago when they
decided to foist a central bank on the US --
but it is what they wanted Congress and the
American people to think it would be.
-
- Rather than create new
loanable funds by simply reducing the
reserves a bank was required to keep against
its loans outstanding, the Financiers made a
different arrangement for expanding and
contracting the money supply. All expansion
and contraction would be conducted by big
investment banks either by buying securities
from the Fed (which shrunk money investment
bankers had to invest in big corporations or
loan to cities, states and the Federal
Government) or by selling securities to the
Fed (which gave the investment bankers more
money to invest in corporations in
investments at in the US or elsewhere.) This
is what Timothy F. Geithner does at the
Federal Reserve Bank of New York -- telling
the Fed Board of Governors (including
Bernanke) what he and the Wall Street
financiers have done only after the fact.
(And yes, probably Geithner is an order
taker most of the time -- except in matters
touching the Kleptastrophe where he has the
key role as director and member of the
orchestration team. Needless to say when
loanable funds are handed to investment
bankers in exchange for the securities they
hold, the money they get for lending (which
must give a return higher than the
securities were offering) does not end up as
new purchasing power (new debt-paying power)
in the hands of the average American
householder.
-
- So the Fed, rather than
putting the purchasing and debt-paying power
in the domestic economy loop where it would
reach householders with mortgages they
limited their purchasing power creation to
their own elite circle attached to the
Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the only
Federal Reserve bank in the country which
conducts these open-market purchases and
sales.
-
-
-
-
New York Federal
Reserve Bank and its President, Timothy
Geithner
-
-
- Chinese-speaking Timothy
Geithner is President of the New York
Federal Reserve Bank and Vice Chairman of
the Federal Open Market Committee which
really controls the amount of loanable funds
in the economy. Fed Chairman Bernanke is a
powerless figurehead and misinformation
mouthpiece, a cardboard figure who merely
announces what the new discount rate (the
rate at which the Fed will lend money to
banks "discounted" with treasury securities
held as collateral so banks will not dip
below required reserves when they are
lending close to the the limit allowed by
their excess reserves.) Don't think for a
minute that the Fed Chairman or the Board of
Governors is the power behind the Fed -- he
is merely the "front man," the only leader
of the system that is "appointed" by the
President -- that being the only basis on
which it can it all be said that the Fed is
in any way an instrument of the US
government or responsible to its people.
Both the Chairman and the US President who
appoints him are mere tokens following
orders.
-
- The real power is
Timothy Geithner and the men behind him --
Kissinger, Greenspan, Voker, Reuben, Thain
and Corrigan as will be shown below.
-
- The power is with the
New York Federal Reserve bank and the
President of that bank serves only the
finacial intersts of the international
investment bankers. (Don't be fooled by the
redefinition of banking -- the investment
banks are now "commercial banks" only in the
sense that by becoming so they escape all of
the until now still-remaining regulations
that hampered their actions.
-
- What we have seen is
nothing less that the climactic phase of the
takeover of the US banking system by the
international investment banking interests
-- "the Rothschilds and Rockefellers" as the
ordinary citizen often refer to these
interests consisting of many super rich
families/clans around the world.
-
- The Board of Governors
of the Federal Reserve, except for Geithner
are powerless. Geithner only enjoys power in
the sense of a worker who drives a big
powerful truck, but only where he is told --
except that Geithner is trusted to map out
the plan.
-
- Geithner, it also should
be noted is a former Director of Policy
Development at the International Monetary
Fund and Senior Fellow at the Council of
Foreign Relations. He is close to all of the
heads of the European central banks.
-
- But who is behind
Geithner?
-
- The Board of Governors
of the Federal Reserve (shown below), ALL
POWERLESS, EXCEPT for Geithner. The Chairman
is merely a salesman for the policies set at
the New York Federal Reserve Bank and the
bankers with whom he interacts.
-
- Which of these Fed
Governors is not a powerless window-dressing
rubber stamp?
-
-
-
-
-
One with real power,
but all are yes-men to the Money Interests
and acting in a charade harmful to the
public interest.
-
-
- The impresarios of the
2008 Kleptastrophe is not Paulson or
Bernanke, but Timothy Geithner working with
John Alexander Thain and Gerald Corrigan
among others, mostly former Goldman Sachs
financiers -- chief architects for carrying
out the Kleptastrophe policies of the Money
Power. They planned the drought of
purchasing power that brought about the
foreclosures which destroyed the credit
markets in order that the bankers could
acquire all of that American housing (prime
rental properties) for themselves and their
friends in China who they have made rich by
investing over there all of those loanable
funds the Fed created.
-
- They got hold of the
properties, but off course they could not
resell them in the US since they had
deliberately eliminated all of that American
purchasing power -- and so they provided
themselves with the $700 billion bailout
where the government buys the houses they
got for themselves. The taxpayer, even
though he just had his house foreclosed, now
has to buy the house anyway at a price far
above present market value and do so at
gunpoint -- not right now of course -- he
hasn't got the money, remember -- but over
the years and at compound interest, because
the bailout of the domestic banks is funds
borrowed from the international bankers at
compound interest.
-
- Of course buying Freddie
Mac and Fannie Mae -- buying the mortgages
and lowering the fees on loans -- is also a
hidden bail, rather than an "investment" as
the idea was sold to the public -- again
with funds borrowed from the international
bankers. The Fed borrows to bai
