BESS IS FINALLY HOME!

Thanks to Anna of PekeSaver Rescue who pulled her from Moreno Valley Shelter in So CA, and drove her safely to Glenn who drove her up to LA and took great care of her overnight and then drove her to Vets in am and to Bark Ave LA who cared for her for free for boarding, Jane in Idaho who paid for her needs and costs, Karen who took her home to take care of her every night, as well as Alma who did the same until our wonderful recording star GINA who drove her up to April in SF Bay Area who took great care of her until Gail took her into her foster home. Gail had her groomed, vetted and donated her vet costs of $114 which we sent a tax deductible receipt to her, and Rob who volunteers to drive small dogs from OC, CA to Seattle WA to Cinnamon who drove BESS to Lisa who took her into her loving rescued Pom home. Wow, what a team! And what a happy ending.

Hi, Denise!

We're excited...its really just a few hours away now...

Jane called today to say that she got the check for $200. I am planning to give Rob the money that I would have spent on going down to pick Bess up, about $125.00. What he is doing is really important, as you know, and will have a profound impact -- there are more homes than there are dogs to take them especially in the case of small dogs.
And I am (emotionally and financially) relieved that Bess is in better health than any of us anticipated.

I told Gail, Barbara and Jane that I would email them photos once she is here, so you'll be on the list too. I don't expect Rob to arrive until late Sunday, so look for them on Monday.

Thanks for working with me.

Rudy's email is coming to you next

Yours and all best wishes,
Lisa

04/25/05  Bess is settling right into Lisa's home and already bossing around her little Terrier.  Lisa's Veterinarian is coming over to meet her today. Pictures and updates coming.  Lisa is also fostering 2 Chihuahuas From So CA.

Hi, Denise!

She's here and already running the show! The vet who came today took
blood, didn't hear a murmur, and said that eleven was probably a good
guess.

More pictures will follow...

YOurs,
Lisa

Here's the Bessie report!!!

Is she a marsupial, an Ewok, a sibling of Mr. Winkle? No – she's Marilyn Monroe reincarnate and has a beauty mark -- a distinctive mole
-- on her face to prove it!!! This girl has star power so great that to go out in public is to be mobbed by throngs of admirers, human and animal alike. They easily recognize her from yards away and as she passes by they can be heard gasping, whining, barking, or crying out in admiration. They bombard her with requests for paw prints or kisses while the paparazzi stand on the sidelines snapping away for the tabloids. It is important that we try to keep her at some remove from the crowd, though. This isn't just for her sake -- it is also because some fans are in danger of fainting if they come in close proximity to her.

No one can escape her spell, that's for sure. Bessie commands every room she enters and always leaves her audience wanting more, more, more! On the rare occasion that someone might unwittingly fail to demonstrate adoration for her she brings them into line with a mysterious, seductive, sultry growl.

Her charisma and star status is also in evidence at the dining room table where humans so thoroughly unable to resist her charm have been known to part with their choicest morsels. Some have even served her
with a silver spoon. Conscious of her figure, she opts for Greenies
for dessert but always demands that an assistant hold them for her as she chews.

Our little diva arrived wearing the finest rhinestone-studded collar, a gift from foster mom Gail, and she continues to select only exceptional and exclusive accessories for herself: a shearling bed, a red leather bustier-style harness, fancy identification jewelry.
Also thanks to Gail she came magnificently coiffed and she has since indulged in multiple spa services, including oil treatments for her coat and T-Touch massage. She has made it perfectly clear that when it comes to manicures only a Dremmel filing tool will do -- nail clippers are absolutely verboten! Intending to keep up with the latest cosmetic and health care trends, including the teeth-whitening craze that has swept the nation, she has taken to having her teeth brushed. Moreover, she plans to visit the dentist soon so that she might look, smell, and feel her absolute best as she takes center stage here in Seattle!!

Denise, we are honored and privileged to have become part of Bessie's entourage and body guard brigade. Although we are caught in her spell ourselves, we know the importance and are up to the task of providing her with safety, love, and the sorts of healthy, meaningful relationships that all creatures deserve. No matter the extent of her fame or the challenges it brings, she'll always be our girl.

IN MEMORY OF LISA'S FORMER POM RESCUE:

Rudy (c.1990 - 2005)

We are sorry to have to tell everyone that we lost Rudy. Although he
defied the odds so many times during his life, his time finally came
and we had to say goodbye on Mon., March 21st, the first day of
spring. He was at home, in his pouch, and surrounded by loved ones.

Rudy came to us in the summer of 1999 from the Fairbanks Animal
Shelter, having been found wandering at the Alyeska pipe yard near
North Pole, Alaska.  We didn't know his name, age or previous history,
but at the time he was already an older dog and very sick. He was
nursed back to health with the help of Dr. Jean Battig.

He was indecisive about his new name; Ludwig and Rudy both held appeal
for him, but Rudy -- as in Rudolph -- seemed the best symbolic fit for
us, his new people, given his North Pole origin. When out on a walk he
would always become excited when seeing a big dog.  He would run
toward it and then, after taking a sniff, turn away in disappointment.
His loss of an earlier big dog companion we have always mourned.

Rudy loved to eat flowers he encountered in the garden. A blossom from
a rosemary plant was last. He loved to go with his people on trips out
of the house, to see the world, and to greet and kiss the people he
met. He loved to follow his mom around, always helping her work.

He seemed to get younger and healthier every year, until this year,
and we were very lucky to have him and his love as a central part of
our lives for the past 5+ years.

He was loved by all who met and interacted with him. There is no doubt
that he was a very special, wise dog. He and the gentle wag of his
tail will be missed.

With Love,
--Rob & Lisa
