Arrival Story:
Bailey is a pound puppy. I saw him on my first visit to our county pound and felt very sorry for him. He was super skinny, with cataracts and obviously bad teeth. (Yuck breath!) My friend and fellow animal rescuer- we volunteer with the same rescue- posted his information all over the internet, to many other rescue organizations. A rescue in Utah said, "Pull that dog and we will take him!" He has been here with us for almost a week. :0)

Bio:
Bailey has a forever home in Colorado. We are trying to set up transport to get him to his new mom. In the meantime, he is enjoying naps and hugs. Lots of snuggle time for this little guy. We bought him a little sweater coat because he is always cold. Update... sadly, little Bailey passed away on 12/27/04. He was renamed Mortie by his new mom Ellen in Colorado. He was very much loved by his foster family and his new mom, and will be greatly missed!

READ ABOUT BAILEY: A Senior Toy Poodle in an Ohio shelter on death row that no one wanted:

I sent a "grapevine" message on Friday, November 19th, regarding a little white poodle that was at the Lorain County Dog Pound. It was in pretty bad shape and yearning to get out of his cage.

He was discovered by our very own volunteer, Maureen Saunders. She called me with his information and I did a grapevine message. On Saturday, November 20th, I received an e-mail from a woman in Utah. She had received my message and said she had a home for this little dog and would arrange a cross-country transport. His new home is in Boulder, Colorado!

We could only hope this dog would still be "alive" at the dog pound when it re-opened on Tuesday morning, November 23. Maureen went straight there at 10AM and the little guy was still there. Maureen paid the fee to get him out, named him Bailey and took him home. He went to the vet for a check up, a bubble bath and got his nails clipped. He was very thin and shivering.
She bought him a new coat and a bunch of toys and treats.

The transport was supposed to happen over Thanksgiving weekend, but some of the slots didn't get filled because of the holiday. I was the first slot...Lorain, Ohio to Belleville, Ohio. They decided to wait for this weekend.

Little Bailey spent the next week and a half at Maureens' home with her husband, 2 children and 2 larger dogs! He fit right in and even slept in Maureen's daughter's bed. What an upgrade from the cage at the pound, huh?

He began his transport on Saturday morning...December 4th and will make it to his new home tonight in Boulder, Colorado, around 8:30PM. His new "mom"
is anxiously waiting!!!

I've attached some photos that Maureen took just as Bailey was beginning his new venture...1 of him in his new coat so he looks nice for his new mom, and 1 of him sleeping while on his transport. He was going to change vehicles 11 times between Lorain and Boulder. Each person transporting was going to take a picture that his new owner will share when the camera ends up with little Bailey.

All I can say is...what a success for little Bailey. Thanks to Maureen in Lorain and Denise in Utah. Little Bailey has a wonderful new home because of you and everyone one in between.

I am so excited about seeing Bailey (soon to be Mortie).  I want you to all know how appreciative I am of you for all you have done for him.  I am hoping to take him back east this summer and have one of my brothers or nephews remove his cataracts (yes, there are four vets in my family).  I hope at some time I can be a driver to move other rescued animals.

Cradling you all gently in my heart,

Ellen

Watch Oct/Nov. 2006 for the TV Documentary "Fifteen Legs" named after Bailey and another rescued dog:  "Denise,

"Bailey appears at the end of Fifteen Legs (the production) and the companion book is dedicated to Bailey and the little Aussie-mix who takes the fifteen leg journey home. The book has been edited, is with a designer now, and will soon go to print. Our plan is to release the production and the book around the same time in late Oct./November. Will let you know...

We still receive your emails. You do a tremendous job promoting the needs of animals. It is truly remarkable how much ground you cover!"
