Semi-retired Utah County Sheriff Lt. Mike Morgan
has been filling in as shelter director at the Southern Utah County
Animal Shelter; the shelter that, incidently, he is mostly responsible
for getting our officials to build and for the past few months since
the last director was fired.
He has the experience of running the Utah
County Animal Shelter for many years after succeeding his mentor Rex
Murdock in that antiquated and overcrowded shelter in South Provo.
The old shelter used to have to put 25
dogs down a day five days a week, but Morgan has made decisions to
educate pet owners of the reality of the numbers of pets that enter
the shelter and how many are actually ever adopted out.
He has established a productive and
cooperative relationship with animal rescuers that has lowered the
number of unwanted pets needing euthanasia as well as lowered animal
control costs to the cities; he always has been marvelous at managing
the staff that love to work under his wise, fair and caring direction.
We all are grateful to Mike Morgan for his
dedication, professionalism and for being there whenever the Utah
County Animal Shelter and our community needed his service. Please
urge the Utah County Animal Shelter Board to hire Mike Morgan, who has
made the decision with his family to come out of retirement and apply
to become the full-time permanent director of the South Utah County
Animal Shelter.
All of you that have adopted the 700 plus
dogs from our organization can thank Mike Morgan for helping these
dogs be rescued from the Utah County Animal Shelter over the past
eight years.
